A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stores electrical energy so it can be used at a different time from when it was generated. A complete system has three parts: battery modules, a battery management system, and an inverter that converts between battery DC and site AC.
CLN All-in-One systems combine all three in one cabinet with an energy management system that blends solar, grid, generator and batteryautomatically — from 5 kW to 250 kW. Published Prime and Pro specifications include LFP cells rated for 6,000 cycles at 25 °C and transfer in under 5 milliseconds.
What a system actually contains
"Battery" does a lot of work in most conversations. A storage installation that does a useful job on a commercial site has four distinct parts, and the quality of the result is usually decided by the three that are not the cells.
| Component | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Cells and modules | Store the energy | Chemistry sets cycle life, safety margin and usable depth |
| Battery management system | Monitors and balances every cell | Prevents over-charge, over-discharge and thermal events |
| Hybrid inverter | Converts DC to AC and back | Sets power rating, transfer speed and round-trip efficiency |
| Energy management system | Chooses the source, moment to moment | Where the savings are actually produced — or lost |
CLN integrates all four into one cabinet. The practical consequence is accountability rather than elegance: on an assembled system these parts often carry separate warranties from separate vendors, and a fault becomes an argument about whose component caused it.
Home, Prime and Pro
| Series | Power | Storage | Solar input | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home | 5 – 10 kW | 10 – 32 kWh | up to 10 kW | Homes and estates — silent, no generator |
| Prime | 5 – 15 kW | 10 – 32 kWh | up to 30 kW | Shops, offices, clinics — generator peak shaving |
| Pro | 30 – 250 kW | 64 – 480 kWh | up to 2 × 250 kW | Factories and large commercial — high voltage |
Prime and Pro are the hybrid series: both manage solar, grid and generator together, both include integrated aerosol fire suppression and an IP54 enclosure, both correct power factor above 0.99, and both carry a 5-year warranty on cells rated for 6,000 cycles at 25 °C. Pro adds HVAC cooling and a high-voltage architecture. Beyond 250 kW, configurations are built to order.
System or battery only?
CLN sells both, and the honest answer depends on what you already have.
- You already own an inverter that supports lithium — buy a battery from the Lithium Solutions rangeand pair it. Cheaper, and it keeps equipment you have already paid for.
- You are starting from nothing, or the existing inverter is old, undersized or not lithium-compatible — buy an All-in-One system. One supplier, one warranty, one party to call.
- You run a diesel generator daily — you want Prime or Pro specifically, because the peak-shaving logic is what produces the saving. See diesel generator replacement.
What it saves
On a commercial site the backup function is rarely what pays for the system. Three things do:
- Displacing diesel. The largest and fastest return by a wide margin — Prime is designed to cut generator fuel use by up to 70%.The arithmetic is here.
- Removing a separate uninterruptible power supply. Transfer under 5 milliseconds can cover that role on compatible loads, so on some sites a whole layer of equipment and its battery replacement cycle disappears after a critical-load assessment.More on that.
- Avoided downtime. Spoiled batches, halted lines, lost refrigeration. Specific to your operation, and frequently larger than the energy arithmetic.
The savings calculator models the first of these against your own generator, tariff and diesel price, and recommends a specific CLN model. For price expectations, see what storage costs in India.
Energy storage systems — questions
What is a battery energy storage system?
A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stores electrical energy in batteries so it can be used at a different time from when it was generated or drawn. A complete system contains three parts: the battery modules, a battery management system that protects and balances the cells, and an inverter or power conversion system that converts between battery DC and the AC a site uses. CLN All-in-One systems combine all three in one cabinet with an energy management system that decides moment to moment whether to draw from solar, grid, generator or battery.
What is the difference between the CLN All-in-One range and the CLN lithium battery range?
The CLN All-in-One Home, Prime and Pro series are complete energy storage systems with the hybrid inverter built in — you connect them to the site and they manage solar, grid, generator and battery themselves. The CLN Lithium Solutions range is batteries only, intended to pair with an inverter you already have or one specified separately. Buy All-in-One if you want one supplier and one warranty for the whole installation.
Which CLN All-in-One series suits my site?
CLN Home Series covers 5 to 10 kW with 10 to 32 kWh of storage for residences wanting silent backup. Prime Series covers 5 to 15 kW as a low-voltage hybrid for shops, offices, clinics and restaurants that also run solar or a diesel generator. Pro Series covers 30 to 250 kW as a high-voltage industrial system for factories and large commercial sites. The on-site savings calculator recommends a specific model against your load.
Do CLN energy storage systems work with an existing solar array and diesel generator?
Yes. The CLN Prime and Pro series are hybrid systems that manage solar PV, the grid, a diesel generator and the battery from one energy management system. They are designed to be added to an existing setup — the generator and solar array stay where they are, and the system decides which source is cheapest to draw from at any moment. Prime accepts up to 30 kW of solar input and Pro up to 2 × 250 kW.
How fast do CLN systems transfer during a power cut?
The CLN All-in-One specification states transfer in under 5 milliseconds, far faster than a diesel generator that typically needs 8 to 15 seconds to start and accept load. Critical-load ride-through, UPS topology and bypass requirements still need to be assessed before a separate UPS is removed.
What safety systems do CLN energy storage systems include?
The CLN Prime and Pro series both include an integrated aerosol fire suppression system, an IP54 rated enclosure suitable for indoor and semi-outdoor installation, and thermal management — forced air cooling on Prime and HVAC on Pro. All series use LFP cells with a smart battery management system protecting against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, over-temperature and short circuit.
How long do CLN energy storage systems last?
Published Prime and Pro specifications state 6,000 cycles at 25 °C and a 5-year warranty. Actual lifetime and usable energy depend on the model, temperature, depth of discharge, operating pattern and warranty terms. Prime and Pro round-trip efficiency is specified above 92%; the final proposal confirms the applicable configuration.
Can a CLN energy storage system reduce my electricity bill as well as provide backup?
Yes, and on commercial sites that is usually the larger benefit. The Prime and Pro series peak-shave a diesel generator, cutting fuel consumption by up to 70%, and shift load away from expensive periods. Power factor correction above 0.99 also improves power quality. A conventional uninterruptible power supply is pure insurance and never reduces a bill; an energy storage system does both.
